Mendeley enables scientists to manage, explore, share, and visualize their research. You can help us create the tools for that. We’re looking for a great software engineer to join us in Central London. Your task will be to advance the client part of our integrated desktop + web-based research network.
Not only do we have exciting technology and angel/venture capital funding, but we
also have a brilliant team including people who’ve helped to build Last.fm, one of Europe’s most successful start-ups. Together we can revolutionize the way students and researchers work, grow the world‘s largest academic community, and create something truly meaningful.
You should:
- have a degree in Computer Science or a related field - if not, you can also convince us with outstanding past work
- have expert knowledge developing and debugging in C/C++ (knowledge of PHP and SQL a plus)
- want to get more experience building large-scale client-server applications
- be keen on making the work of researchers and students more efficient, and more fun, by utilising Web 2.0 technologies
You will…
- shape Mendeley with your own ideas, enthusiasm and personality
- develop a complex system architecture, integrating desktop and web functionality
- conceptualize, design and implement front- and back-end software components
- code using primarily C++ using Qt
- conduct design and code reviews
- work in a friendly, easy and very flexible work environment in Central London, with a bright team with young founders and successful entrepreneurs
We are still a small team, so if you are looking for a challenge, you can quickly take over major product responsibility. To get an idea of our vision and start-up culture, please have a

Please send your application to jobs@mendeley.com and include some examples or references of your past projects. We’re looking forward to getting to know you!
