Hi,
this contest is a wonderful idea!!! I'm a programmer, I love Qt and I use to start ideas without finishing them... Now I hope to partecipate to the contest by terminating something I have working on during spare time!
Prizes too are very nice, except I have a perplexity: Qt books? Someone winning such a contest would be really a Qt expert, don't you think?
Moreover, I think Qt documentation is the most excellent documentation existing, and it's better than any book one can write!
I would have suggested some books on more advanced programming topics (for example: linux kernel internals, linux kernel driver development, linux embedded... Now I only manage to be monotone!).
Or better, what about a gift card in a big book online site?
Thank you very much for all, I hope to be there at may 31!!!

Expert? Not necessarily. I'd consider myself a C++ expert but only sort of ok with Qt. But I have created several useful applications with Qt, just by using the standard widgets.

A book can address the more difficult topics in tutorial form (like: custom widgets, painting, networking, etc.). Give you examples and guide you through step by step.

The documentation is great for reference. I often use it for the class definitions. But it can't always beat a good book.

The other books you mentioned are not necessarily of interest to the winner. And I suppose QtCentre is getting these specific books for free because they are promoting Qt.

I hope that by "terminating" you meant "completing" :)

No, I don't think you have to be an expert on Qt programming to implement a custom widget. Besides, books are not only for beginners.

Moreover, I think Qt documentation is the most excellent documentation existing, and it's better than any book one can write!

Still it is only the reference... Sometimes other approach may be required to understand some things. For instance the reference doesn't tell you anything about Qt internals and I'd surely like to see a book about such subject.

I would have suggested some books on more advanced programming topics (for example: linux kernel internals, linux kernel driver development, linux embedded... Now I only manage to be monotone!).

The problem is that such books would be useless to Windows programmers.

Or better, what about a gift card in a big book online site?
True, but it's a Qt contest. I'm sure that if you win a book, we can talk about exchanging it for such a card.

Thank you very much for all, I hope to be there at may 31!!!

Remember to submit your project description (http://contest.qtcentre.org/register) some time earlier, like the contest webpage (http://contest.qtcentre.org) says.
