How is the judging progressing? Is it days/weeks/months from done?

jacek

We already have verdicts in two categories, so it's a matter of 2--3 weeks.

We have a verdict for all categories except for the biggest one.

Oh. Ok. How much time might it be before the results are announced?

Do we have a verdict?

People went on vacation or sth, it's hard to fetch the results from them. We'll try to announce results ASAP. Sorry for the long delay, we'll try to do better next time.

Do we have a verdict? Is it possible to announce the results in the categories where you have the verdict?

jacek

Do we have a verdict?
Sorry, but still nothing. To ensure that the verdicts are objective we asked sponsors to delegate judges, so the winners could be chosen collectively, but we didn't take into account the holiday season, thus this lag.

Is it possible to announce the results in the categories where you have the verdict?
We will wait until the end of week and announce the winners for all categories with a verdict.

jacek

We're going to have a full verdict after all. Just give us some time to prepare everything.

<<Just give us some time to prepare everything.>>

I think the delays may be reducing the charm and shine of the contest. Although I do understand what the organizers may be going through given that they have other mainstream jobs too.

From your previous post it looked like you had received the final say from all the judges. Can we have the verdict today?

Yes, we have received the results for the last category. The reason why we didn't publish them yet was quite prosaic --- I was sick.

Ok. I guess we will have the results out in a couple of months (or years !!) then ;)

You're gonna get only a book if you don't behave!

Chill man... ! I am not even contesting..

marcel
11th September 2007, 21:08
Me neither...
But judging from the interest you have shown for the contest results I think everybody thought you were one of the contestants. You must be the people's advocate.

So, no book for you.

wysota
11th September 2007, 21:46
So, Marcel, why didn't you submit your final entry? ;)

I assure you the results will be announced soon. I'm currently away, but when I'm back and results are still not announced, that will be one of the first things to take care of. It's just I'm currently busy with my own issues and DevDays preparations and Jacek was ill, like he already mentioned.

marcel

So, Marcel, why didn't you submit your final entry? ;)

Is that a rhetorical question? :) Because I never could make the difference.
Anyway, I didn't submit it because it did not have time to finish it. New projects at work and a lot of new (java) stuff to learn...
Maybe next year, if there's going to be a 2nd contest edition.

Regards

Sorry for the reeeeaaaaaaaally long delay. We'll do better next time (provided that there will be a next time).

Is there a list of positive and negative points for the projects that aren't mentioned? I'd like to know where the jury thought I could improve.

It depends on the project. Those positives and negatives were strictly voluntary, so for instance Desktop Application participants don't have such (because of the large number of entries and a bit different judging scheme than the rest of the categories).

Michiel
16th September 2007, 17:59
Then for next contest, I suggest the jury try to compile some of these for each project. It will be an extra incentive for people to enter.

But why don't the winners say something...?

I'm a winner with QDevelop. I'm very happy to see QDevelop win and to have won a very good prize. But I would like to congratulate the others participants and also to thank qtcentre and the sponsors to organize this contest.

GCF won the 3rd place in the helper library category. My thanks to the judges for choosing to award GCF with the prize. Thanks for all the participants and QtCenter for making the contest happen.

Hello to all the people out there in the Qt Center Community,

On behalf of the Marble Team I'd like to thank the judges for choosing Marble to be the best entry in Desktop Application Category and for the 3rd prize in the Custom Widget Category.
I'd also like to thank the people involved in this contest and of course all the people of our Marble Team for making this possible. :D

And there it was. Truth is I am very pleased to brag about my submission, nothing less than Qtractor (http://qtractor.sourceforge.net) itself, has raised to the 2nd place under the Desktop Application category, the one that fitted and with more contestants.

Congratulations to the winners on all categories, and a special bow to the Marble team, which took the head and also made the remarkable feat in scoring in two categories.

Onto my side, I just hope that any of the two books that are deserved to me are not any of the couple I already own about Qt4 programming :) which are:

C++ GUI Programming with QT 4
Mark Summerfield, Jasmin Blanchette
Modern OO Design Patterns in C++ and Qt4
Alan Ezust, Paul Ezust

Sorry for this one, but I couldn't stop myself ;)

Hope to see you all again next year.

Cheers.

I have just uploaded an updated GCF build here: http://vcreatelogic.com/oss/gcf/index.html. I would like to request the members to take a look at it sometime. Thanks for your time.

Hi everyone,

a bit late but still... I'm very happy about the second price for that little Qt Widget (color map plot thingy)! Congratulations also to all other winners and cheers also to all other participants and of course, a big thank you to the jury and contest admins who - as I would guess - had quite some work with this contest!

I'm also very happy about my two books: Effective C++ and The Pragmatic Programmer - both excellent books. Thanks a lot!

Btw, the comments by the jury about the submission were very helpful and as soon as I find the time I'll put in some work to improve the widget.

Bye,
Andreas

Thanks for the two books. The "Dragon book" is a great source of inspiration and advice for all my parsing-related works. Admitedly the book on Python & Qt4 is probably not the most interesting ATM (as far as I'm concerned) but I'm sure I'll use it someday :)

And thanks for the T-shirt. It really rocks!!! Also so fun to wear during the computer science class ;)

That's why you got it.

And that's why you got it as well. It's for an inspiration to look outside the C++ world.

And thanks for the T-shirt. It really rocks!!!
That's why everybody got it ;)

Also so fun to wear during the computer science class ;)
It was fun to wear it at DevDays as well ;)

I just wanted to say thanks for the book and the shirt (I just got it last week!).

Happy birthday!
