Default Qt licence for app only for myself

    Hello,

I have developed a small app on "Community" edition of Qt framework. I work for a commercial company, and my app helps me to make work faster.
I'm the only user of this app and i'm not going to distribute it. Do I need to pay for Qt commercial licence or I can stay with "Community" edition? Should I make my app source code public?

    Thank You.

If you aren't going to distribute it, then what's the point of making the source code public? That's equivalent to distributing it, so you contradict yourself. I think the various licenses only apply when you intend to make something public, not to something developed for personal use, regardless of whether it is used in a commercial setting.

If you hadn't told all of us about it, who would have known?

The name "Community Edition" and "Commerical Edition" are intended to scare company decision makers into buying "commercial" licenses.

As a software creator it is better to look at what this means in terms of license, in terms of legal not in terms of monetary.

Qt is available under a set of licenses, i.e. it is multi licensed.

Two of these are Free Sofware licenses, both of which granting you the right to use the software (Qt) for whatever purpose you would like, both of which having requirements that only trigger at further distribution.

    Cheers,
