I'm working on a program I plan to release under GPL. I've never done this before. Where would be a good place to put it? I know sourceforge, but it seems a bit overkill. I'm not sure if I'm actively going to maintain this program.

Also, where do I need to place the GPL text?

Thanks!

If you already have some webspace you can just put a download on your homepage.
If it is a Qt or KDE program, maybe you can put it at www.kde-apps.org.
Otherwise a project-page is probably the cheapest option to get a place for your program, even if you don't use all the features like cvs, maillinglists, etc.

Personally i wouldn't use sourceforge because of this (http://www.fsfeurope.org/news/article2001-10-20-01.en.html). I would prefer savannah (http://savannah.gnu.org/) or gna (http://www.gna.org).
