I would like to add a Toolbar with icons to my application.
What I however do not have is Icons. And I do not want to do them on my own, especially for the very common ones.

So is there a set of free Icons for Software?

If you're making GPL software, I guess you can use for example the Crystal iconset that is used in KDE.
If you're make non-GPL software, take a look at Glyfx (http://www.glyfx.com)

Check out the Tango (http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Library) project.

If you're making GPL software, I guess you can use for example the Crystal iconset that is used in KDE.

You can use Crystal regardless of your application's license. It is licensed under the LGPL. Another option would be KDE4's Oxygen (http://www.oxygen-icons.org/) icon set, also licensed under the LGPL.

There are a lot of free icon sets available, but I would always use one that is "native" to the platform I target. By native I mean that it is used by default on that platform. If I targeted Linux, for example, I'd probably use Oxygen or Tango, as these are the default icon sets of the two predominant desktop environments. This way my application has a greater chance of fitting in with the rest of the desktop.
