Zooming effect by scaling widgets

How can you implement a zooming effect by scaling all the widgets contained in a parent widget on a mouse wheel event. Is there an easier way than manually setting all the sizes, resizing the fonts and so on...phew that would be a big mess.

Well no, because that would change the font everywhere and not only in the widgets that need to be scaled. And it's also not only the font, it's also the sizes.
