Hiding a window from the taskbar

Does anyone know how to suppress the appearance of a QMainWindow in the Window Manager taskbar ? In MFC/win32 you can remove the WS_EX_APPWINDOW bit from the window's extended styles. but doing this on the QMainWindow's (HWND)winId() seems to have no effect.
