Hello,

According to Amazon.com, the book "C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4" has not yet been released and the expected release date is not known.

Does anyone have any information on its release?

The book "An Introduction to Design Patterns in C++ with Qt 4" was delayed until this September.

Thanks,
Ben

Google is you friend.
You can buy now "C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4" at (at least as far as I can see): http://www.phptr.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=0131872494&rl=1

I just got an email from Amazon saying that I could pre-order the book and they will ship it when they get it from the publisher, which they said would be within a couple of months.

It came to $41 and change.

The publisher of the other book, which appears to be better, has not posted a release date.

'C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4' is showing a release date of June 26, 2006. This is the book written by the authors of the Qt 3 book ... the one I'm currently trying to buy at Amazon. The publisher Printice Hall is showing a release date of June 21, 2006. This is frustrating. I guess I'll ask Trolltech since Jasmin Blanchette actually works there.

'An Introduction to Design Patterns in C++ with Qt 4' is showing a release date of September 1, 2006. I may get it later.

It was supposed to have been released this week, but Amazon has a later ship date as always. Btw, I have seen an early copy of the book, and it looks good. So go order one and make Mark and Jasmin rich!

My copy hasn't arrived yet, but my understanding is that it will NOT include an ebook. It isn't listed in the cdrom description. A PDF may be available in the future.

I just browsed the CD that came with my copy of the book (Amazon) and it does NOT contain either an ebook or a PDF.

However, I just got mine, and it includes an URL and passcode for a "Safari Online" edition (time limited).

If you can get it, I'll "copy - paste" to msword, and create PDF, and trying to create chm, with Html2chm programm.

The only reason that the link wasn't deleted is that this book was published under Open Publication Licence (http://opencontent.org/openpub/).

The last version was, but this current version is not. Maybe it will be in the future, but as of right now it isn't.

Are you sure?
Looking very closely, I do see that it's under the Open Publication License v1.0 in fine print at the bottom of the copyright page. My apologies for not looking closer earlier.

Actually, both of these books are available online, "An Introduction to C++ with Design Patterns in Qt 4" can be found at http://www.freetechbooks.com
and "C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4" is available at another site

I didn't link directly to the books because I don't know those sites policies, so just search for the books, they're very easy to find. It's funny, at the other site there's an ads by google section and the ad when I just went there was for Trolltech :)

If you like the books, please support the authors and buy them.

{edit} removed second link till I can verify it.

Are you sure that these sites don't promote copyright violation?

I'm pretty sure they're ok. The freetechbooks.com site was featured on digg.com some time ago. The other one I'm not that sure about though. I'll remove that link till I can more guarentee that site is ok. That second book is published under the Open Publication License, v1.0, so it should be ok to post right?

It's not right, but it isn't against the law (if I understood that licence correctly).

Ok, well that first book is on some openwiki thing at some university website which is linked to from the freetechbooks site. I won't post the second book, then. Besides, you need to buy the book if you want the cd as well. :) It definitly looks like it's worth buying though.

The http://www.opencontent.org/openpub/ site seems to indicate dstributing it ok as long as it isn't specified in the copyright notice not to distribute or something, I dunno, it's a little unclear to me.

Is it just my connection or is the site horribly slow? Do these people provide a PDF? I found a wiki-type document which is not off-line-capable. And what was the other link? Did you verify?

Thanks.

Ya that other site hosts torrents of e-books, and while it may be legal for the qt book, I can't veify that all the books on that site are legit, hence my removal of the link. You can find the book here though:

Ok, so the book is Open License. chm is kinda messy.

Can anyone make it a PDF and distribute it along with the CD? (I'm requesting it, not asking if the action of distributing is legal)

Why do it?
Well nobody has to do it, but I believe in Open Source Software, and distributing it would make a huge benefit to us all. Maybe someone kind enough has the time and is willing to do it, maybe if we get enough posters that ask for this.

Would be glad to hear opinions on this. :)
