Just came across this:

I must say, I'm not fond of cell phones, I know how to make a phone call on my current one and that's it. But this one looks like fun to play with :). What's the difference between the phone edition and regular qtopia? The only download for it on trolltech's site is for some demo thing.

Probably the set of applications provided differs.

I think at least it should provide Telephone API for calls and SMS, etc. Which Qtopia alone do not provide.

Heh, this phone/pda thingy was just announced today: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/17/road_handypc_targets_nokia/
looks like it'll be more expensive, and it won't be green... and I don't think that screen is even a touch pad...

The Greenphone is intended to accompany a Qtopia Phone edition SDK. It is a device for developers, system integrators, and not a general consumer device.

Well I'm not a typical consumer ;)
Since it says the phone will be released under different terms for opensrouce/educational/phone manufacturers, I'm kinda hoping they'll let open source people get the phones at cost of the phone, or thereabouts. :D

Agree, I would really buy one GreenPhone to play with, if the price is acceptable like a normal phone.

at that price... I don't think so. Too bad, it could have been fun :(
