Curve brush with linear gradient?

Hi,

I'd like to be able to set a curve brush (shaded area below the curve towards baseline) to have a linear gradient between two colors (where one of the colors will also be the canvas color).

I believe this is not going to be simple. Does anyone have any ideas on how I might achieve this?

I'm using Qwt 5.2, but could use 6 if it helps.
