can no longer open previously working project or create a new one; only has cpp file

I can no longer open and run a project that was working. When I create a new one, it looks just like the existing one - a project without the .pro folder, or the source folder. All I have is a .cpp file, which I can edit, but when I try to run it, the sample Hello World program runs.

How can I fix this?
