what is this QMAKESPEC and hw to set it?

this is the error i get when i type qmake project dragdrop


"QMAKESPEC has not been set, so configuration cannot be deduced.
Error processing project file: dragdrop"

you can set the path of QMAKESPEC in .bash_profile /home/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.2.2/mkspec/linux-g++

can you please tell me more about setting the QMAKESPEC var?
i mean i am new to LINUX( fedora core) and dont know how to do it? i cant find .bash_profile
