Default SDI app with list control

I am trying to create a SDI app with a list control that resizes with the application. So far the best I have been able to do is to put a Dock Widget in the window and add the list control programatically, but it only resizes horizontally (not vertically).

How do you add that list exactly? Do you use layouts? Also can you attach a screenshot that illustrates what you want to achieve?
