Question paint and boundingRect Protect versus Public

If you plan on reimplementing paint and boundingRect in derived classes only. Then what would be the difference between making them public or making them protected? Is there any real advantage to making these two functions public?

Yes, because something needs to call them, right? And this something is probably outside the class itself (just like with widgets or graphic items).
