Default Qt Assistant does not display any contents or index

Hello. I am using Qt 4.4.0 on Kubuntu Hardy. I have the qt4-dev-tools package (containing the assistant) and the qt4-doc package (containing the new format help) installed.

Upon starting Assistant, I find that both the Contents and Index tabs are empty. I go to Edit > Preferences > Documentation and I find that documentation for Qt, qmake, Linguist, Designer and Assistant are all registered. If I search for anything on the right-hand search pane, I get:

Your search did not match any documents.

I find that I do not have any ~/.assistant/ directory nor ~/.config/Trolltech/Assistant.conf

I have seen the threads 1 and 2 but I couldn't learn anything there.

Please help. How do I force the assistant to create an index? Did you find anything? Thanks.
