Thread: is gmake necessary?

    Default is gmake necessary?

    Hi,

In my installation on Linux for qt4.4.3, I did a ./configure followed by a ./gmake install, without the gmake step.

Is the gmake step necessary since I can run my Qt as per normal? if not, then why the doc says that we have to do a gmake first then a gmake install?

    Thanks
    Will.

    Default Re: is gmake necessary?

make install implicitly calls make. The difference is that make install might require superuser privileges (because it both builds and installs the code).
