What is Qt Symbol Server?

I get the following text in a popup dialog when I start debugging in qtcreator.

The debugger is not configured to use the public Microsoft
Symbol Server. This is recommended for retrieval of the
symbols of the operating system libraries.

Note: A fast internet connection is required for this to work
smoothly. Also, a delay might occur when connecting for the
first time.

Would you like to set it up?

I don't see any reference to Qt Symbol Server, whatever that might be. The popup refers to Microsoft Symbol Server. Typing that into Google will immediately give you good information about it.

Here is a summary of what I found.

For QtSDK debugging in Windows using Microsoft Visual C libraries ...

• Download the .net framework v4.0 package
  http://www.microsoft.com/download/en....aspx?id=17851
  
• Download Windows SDK
  32-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtoo...nstallx86.Mspx
  64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtoo...tall64bit.Mspx
  
• Restart Qt Creator
  When you start debugging the first time, QtCreator will ask for a directory in which to put the symbol cache.
